State of Montana IT officials consider modifying new confidential data system

Melody Martinsen, chairwoman and co-owner of the Choteau Acantha, said the board is worried the words “secret” and “top secret” could be used by state officials to keep private information that should be public.

A new policy approved this fall by the Montana Information Technology Managers Council http://sitsd.mt.gov/Governance/Boards-and-Councils/ITMC classified all data state agencies deal with as either public, confidential, secret or top secret.

Baldwin said the policy will next be discussed at the meeting at the Legislative Finance Committee meeting on Dec. 7 at the Capitol and again on Dec. 8 at the Information Technology Managers Council meeting at the Red Lion Colonial Hotel from 10 a.m. to noon.
