‘The boom will come back’: Couple tries to stay in Montana through downturn

Amy Brummage thought she was taking a break from her job as a safety consultant in the Bakken last summer, but it didn’t work out that way.

"I went to Texas for two months to get out of the Bakken," she said. "I took a job back up here, worked eight hours and got laid off, right after moving back from Texas."

That was in August, three days after she signed a new lease on a two-story townhouse built on top of old farm fields.
