Local businesses have tough time finding workers in Bozeman

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

A Bozeman business owner says "Employment this year has been the worst in all the 25 (years) that I’ve been in business."

Kathleen Schmidt is the owner of the It’s Greek to Me restaurant off Ninth Avenue, and she says finding workers for her restaurant has been a challenge. She sometimes ends up covering all tasks by herself.

"It’s hard to stay in business, hard to keep the hours that I’m used to keeping. And if I have the energy on a certain day, then I’m OK to go. It’s just you’re on your feet doing all of it as best you can all the time," said Schmidt.

The Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce says many managers are working extra shifts to make sure the business keeps running smoothly.
