Missoula school bonds would pay for faster Internet, wireless access at all schools and would make entrances at schools more secure

While each building will receive specific improvements if this fall’s Missoula County Public Schools’ bond requests pass, some enhancements will occur districtwide – bringing schools up to modern technology standards among them.

As computers and the Internet have become increasingly entwined with classroom education, one of the primary investments of bond funds would be in updating technology infrastructure in every MCPS building.

That includes buying new switches – the devices responsible for routing all digital information into, out of and around schools.

Bonds would make entrances at schools more secure

After the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012, Missoula County Public Schools organized a high-level committee to look at the safety and security of its own buildings.

In attendance were representatives from security companies, as well as Missoula-area law enforcement agencies and the county’s Office of Emergency Management. Their assignment: to determine where schools had security deficiencies and how they could be improved.
