Hi-Tech Rockfall Construction – Helicopter work requires longer delays on I-15 Oct. 6 through Oct.9

D3 Rockfall Mitigation flies forward with helicopter installations
Aerial work will require longer traffic delays from Oct. 6 through Oct.9

Hi-Tech Rockfall Construction http://www.hitechrockfall.com/ , general contractor for the rockfall mitigation project south of Wolf Creek, Montana – D3 Rockfall Mitigation Phase 1 – announced today that helicopters will be used to install hanging mesh starting Tuesday, October 6. Safety precautions will increase during this time and will impact those traveling through the project.

Helicopters on the job site create higher risks and require a wider separation from the traveling public. To limit risk and manage delays, helicopters will work in limited intervals and will be grounded regularly in order to allow traffic to pass through the project.

Commuters and residents should expect delays up of to 30 minutes during these intervals. Hi-Tech Rockfall anticipates the first stage of helicopter installations will begin Tuesday, October 6 and finish on Friday, October 9.

"There’s no doubt about it – delays are a pain," said Dan Rivas, project manager for Hi-Tech Rockfall. "The patience this community has extended, in spite of the daily inconveniences, is impressive. We’re working hard to honor that spirit of partnership by limiting delays whenever possible and moving travelers through the project as quickly and safely as possible."

The D3 Rockfall Mitigation project is in progress along Interstate 15 in Prickly Pear Canyon, located seven miles south of Wolf Creek. Work will include slope scaling; installation of rock bolts and draped mesh, and construction of rockfall attenuator fences and a flexible rockfall barrier. In addition, the project includes placement of concrete barrier rail and new guardrail. The overall goal of this project is to eliminate significant rockfall, creating a safer roadway and limiting roadway patching and maintenance. The current completion date the D3 Rockfall Mitigation project is November 2015, weather permitting.
