The University of Montana receives $264K in land grant revenue; MSU claims $3M

The Montana University System has two flagship campuses – but the one in Missoula receives just a fraction of land grant revenue compared to its sister campus in Bozeman.

In the 2015 fiscal year, the University of Montana received $264,000 of the net revenue distributed by the land trust program, according to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. The program directly distributes receipts from renewable resources.

"My question is motivated by the relative size of the pie dedicated to the University of Montana," Engstrom said. "Could you just tell me the rationale for those original allocation sizes? And are those reviewable, and if so, by whom?"
