Invest in our Schools

Featuring new Missoula County Public Schools Superintendent Mark Thane and a discussion about the Smart Schools 2020 bond.

Missoula voters will see two school bonds on the November ballot, one for Missoula County Public Schools District elementary and middle schools and one for its high schools. The district’s superintendent, Mark Thane, will take the opportunity to explain the needs: The average age of the district’s school buildings is 57 years. Their heating and cooling systems are outdated. Schools are at capacity, and classrooms are crowded. Technology is slow and outdated.

City Club invites forum attendees’ questions, from the specifics of the bond to the philosophical and policy questions about how communities can continue to fund schools along with all the other needs. Susan Hay Patrick, chair of the citizens committee supporting the bonds, Invest in Missoula Schools, will also be on hand to answer questions.

City Club Missoula forums include 10 minutes of discussion at individual tables before questions.

City Club Missoula President Larry Brehm serves as master of ceremonies for each monthly forum.
