Biden, Cuomo are hooked on photonics

The new American Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) Photonics, announced officially Monday by Vice President Joe Biden, expects to hire about 100 scientists and other experts and get to work on a handful of research projects within about five months.

Michael Liehr, who most recently ran the computer chip foundry at the SUNY Poly Nanotech Complex in Albany and will be the Photonics center’s CEO, said much of the work of AIM Photonics will be done at the complex in Albany and at the SUNY Polytechnic facility in Greece, where Biden made the announcement.
