Rolling forward: Riding the Hiawatha on handcycles

Most Route of the Hiawatha Bike Trail http://www.ridethehiawatha.com/ staff know frequent visitor Sherene Ricci as "Lefty."

At the age of 24, Ricci had her right leg amputated because cancer had damaged her sciatic nerve. She uses a handcycle to ride what she calls one of her favorite places on earth, the Hiawatha trail. On July 15, Ricci was part of a group of adaptive cyclists who came to the Hiawatha for a special annual trip.

"Everyone here has a reason to be bummed out but I don’t see us sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves," Ricci said.
