Grant Dollars Working to Address Montana’s Healthcare Worker Shortage

Nearly 10 months after Montana was chosen for a $15 million federal grant, healthcare centers across Montana are still working hard to recruit more workers.

53 of Montana’s 55 counties are medically underserved, and RiverStone Health reports an additional 1,300 healthcare jobs each year for the foreseeable future in Montana, largely due to an aging healthcare workforce and retirement from the Baby Boomer generation.

The grant aims to recruit more adult learners to complete one and two-year degrees in healthcare. RiverStone Health Healthcare Professions Coach Pat Ruess says 15 Montana colleges are offering programs that can lead to careers in medical assisting, transcoding, medical billings, surgical tech. and more.
