Report: Poor children in Missoula have above-average upward income mobility
June 14, 2015 /
Montana’s Glacier and Big Horn counties are two of the worst places for poor children to grow up in the nation, in terms of their opportunity for upward income mobility, according to a study by Harvard economists.
By age 26, a child from a poor family in Glacier County will make an average of $4,930, or 19 percent, less than a poor child in an average county in the U.S. In Big Horn County, that number is only slightly better at $4,350, or 17 percent, less.
The news is considerably brighter in other areas of Montana, however.
