Tech speaker: More women choosing petroleum engineering career
May 16, 2015 /
Montana Tech’s commencement speaker Sandy Stash says being a woman with a degree in petroleum engineering in the early 1980s was a challenge.
It was a field few women went into more than 30 years ago.
Women still don’t choose it as a career path in large numbers, but the numbers are improving, Stash said in a phone interview Thursday with The Montana Standard. She said about 20 percent of people who now go into petroleum fields are women.
"It’s quite rewarding to see," she said.
