The Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC), based at Montana State University in Bozeman, needs a Manufacturing Specialist to be located in Billings, Montana. Billings is Montana’s largest city, offering amazing healthcare, educational, cultural and recreational opportunities. Located on the Yellowstone River and near Yellowstone National Park, Billings offers amazing fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities.

MMEC’s objective is to help Montana manufacturers succeed by providing growth, innovation, efficiency, compliance and managerial assistance to Montana manufacturers for a fee. MMEC is an outreach center of the College of Engineering at Montana State University. Field Offices are located in Bozeman, Billings, Helena, Great Falls, Kalispell and Missoula, and serve the entire state. This position will be located in Billings where you will work independently from an office in one of our partner agencies. In addition to Billings, your territory will include Big Timber, Lewistown, Havre and all points east. You will work with a team of experienced professionals that value integrity, passion, operational excellence, teamwork, and service to the Montana manufacturing community.

Duties and responsibilities include selling and delivering growth, innovation, efficiency, compliance and managerial consulting services to Montana manufacturers; proactively visiting prospective (cold call) and existing clients; assessing clients’ needs, determining strategies and action plans resulting in written proposals for contracted services with manufacturers; writing and reviewing reports; tracking and reporting project progress; developing and managing third party delivery experts, developing appropriate educational materials and presenting public training workshops and seminars; communicating effectively with clients, staff, and partner agencies; preparing end of project survey tools and effectively assisting your clients in completing end-of-project surveys to capture significant economic impact.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, demonstrated, significant experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility in improving business, manufacturing or engineering operations and skill using computers in business, project management, communications, and personal productivity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred qualifications include a working knowledge of manufacturing systems design, analysis and continuous improvement, manufacturing processes and equipment, lean manufacturing concepts, quality management systems, six sigma concepts, workforce development, safety management, technology development and product design as it relates to manufacturing; a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET accredited engineering program; a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business from an AACSB accredited business school; relevant licensing or industry recognized certifications; and experience in the oil industry, food manufacturing, industrial marketing, plant management, technical sales or product development using Solid Works software.
You must be able to sell your abilities and the abilities of our team members to the owners and managers of manufacturing facilities throughout the state of Montana. You must be able to be a productive member of a team of professionals that seeks to advance manufacturing in the state of Montana. You must possess the ability to identify manufacturing, business and engineering problems and then formulate multiple solutions for solving them; You must be a self-starter who can work independently to identify, sell (including cold calls), plan, organize, manage and execute projects. You must possess excellent human relations skills, evidence of good judgment, flexibility and innovativeness to respond to the needs of a wide variety of clients. You must possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing including public presentations. You must have the ability to obtain a Montana driver’s license and be willing to travel by rental car throughout the State of Montana including frequent overnight stays.
