Montana Tech breaks ground on $10 million research center
University officials, students and others broke ground on a $10 million Natural Resources Research Center at Montana Tech on Thursday, hailing it as a public-private partnership that will pay dividends for decades.
"This is indeed a great day on our campus," Tech Chancellor Don Blackketter told about 100 people in the middle of campus where the three-story, 32,000-square-foot center will be located. It’s projected to be completed by the fall of 2016.
The center is being funded through a $5 million appropriation from the Montana Legislature and a combined $5 million donation by three energy giants — Conoco Phillips, Halliburton and Anadarko. They are the largest gifts in Tech’s history, Blackketter said.
