Missoula’s Opportunity Resources opens new electronic waste recycling facility

Sitting in dark rooms and basements in thousands of financial institutions, schools, hospitals, businesses, industrial warehouses – and perhaps even in your own garage – there are piles of old computers, hard drives, monitors, televisions, cellphones, gadgets, cords and other electronic waste waiting to be dumped in the landfill.

They contain valuable materials like copper and other precious metals, but it all has to be dismantled and recycled before it’s of any use. Some of the items, especially older TVs, contain hazardous materials like lead that would poison the aquifer if they were crushed and buried in a landfill.

On Wednesday – Earth Day – Opportunity Resources Inc. http://opportunityresources.org/ , a Missoula-based nonprofit that provides jobs and support to people with disabilities, announced the grand opening of its new electronic waste recycling business, Opportunity E-Cycling.
