Measuring what policymakers want from academics

Scholars believe that policymakers value area studies most, followed by policy analysis, contemporary case studies and historical case studies. Scholars expect that quantitative analysis, pure theory and formal models are the least useful.
The obvious thing to do is ask policymakers what kinds of research they find most useful.
