Time and Oak – An ultra successful Kickstarter campaign may change the whiskey industry.

Most people aren’t interested in Rip van Winkling their stuff: in most instances, offering to age something 10 years overnight wouldn’t be a popular offer. Unless the thing you’re talking about is whiskey. Tony Peniche is talking a lot about whiskey these days. Especially after his recent Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/263766519/whiskey-elements-customize-your-whiskey-in-24-hour project for "whiskey elements" gained 10 times the backing needed to go live.

Peniche is the co-founder of a Portland, Oregon company called Time and Oak http://www.timeandoak.com/ . A long-time whiskey aficionado, he was discouraged by the high prices of top-shelf spirits, and began mulling over what makes one whiskey a premier liquor and another an also-ran. Easy: the barrel. Oversimplified, contact over time with a charred oak barrel gives whiskey its color, and often the characteristic notes of maple, caramel and vanilla.
