Douglas is a vibrant and growing community of 6,200, located on the North Platte River in
eastern Wyoming. The local economy is based on ranching and the broad spectrum of extractive
minerals found in the Powder River Basin. Our community offers an attractive central business
district which is a locally designated historic district; one of the first in the State of Wyoming to
have rehabilitation standards and design guidelines. Douglas also has an active Main Street
program, encouraging downtown economic growth and vibrancy centered on preserving the
area’s historic character.

With a recent surge in energy related activities, current and long range
planning has become increasingly crucial in protecting the small town values Douglas treasures.
Providing opportunities for housing needs to meet a wide range of economic demographics,
responsible business expansion, and adequate provisions for public entities and infrastructure
serving the community has become increasingly important.
