Idaho Falls still uncool with unhipsters

This eastern Idaho town is the place Outside Magazine, the journal of Lycra-clad, yuppified, PowerBar-chomping America, chose as one of its 1995 "dream towns" because it "feels like a muddy farm town."

"Don’t try to prove to these people we’re hicks," I wrote in a column for the Post Register, where I worked at the time, which Outside republished on its website. "They don’t want to hear it. It doesn’t matter. We’re so uncool it’s hip. We’re the Anti-Aspen."

I also wrote at the time that if Idaho Falls http://www.idahofallsidaho.gov/ still had the feel of a muddy farm town in a decade, it will have succeeded in remaining the great place it was to live.

When I returned this month, I didn’t find a muddy farm town.
