Bozeman-based Bridger Photonics awarded a $1.5 million U.S. Department of Energy grant to build a mobile system for finding methane leaks.

Bridger Photonics http://www.bridgerphotonics.com/won the grant to develop a system, which will be mounted on a vehicle and capable of detecting even small methane leaks near oil well platforms, gas compressor stations and, eventually, municipal systems, said Mike Thorpe, optical scientist with Bridger and the principal investigator on the project.
