An expensive year of legal challenges could get worse before it gets better for Missoula County.

During the past 12 months, the county has paid at least $1.1 million in civil settlements and court awards to resolve allegations of legal wrongdoing. That number far surpasses the roughly $380,000 total Missoula County paid to settle civil litigation between 2009 and 2013.
