Wild country in south-central Montana still lures explorers

Last April, in this 150th anniversary of Montana becoming a territory, I started this six-part road trip, following the path of Montana’s historical roadside markers, seeking parallels of contemporary scenes and historical descriptions, questioning how our historical foundations influence our modern lives.

As I watched Oliveri and Bletsch lead the train of mules across an open meadow, I knew a part of my answer was with them.
