Missoula County Public Schools provides programs to help 130 homeless students – 2,551 in Montana

Missoula County Public Schools http://www.mcpsmt.org/site/default.aspx?PageID=1 report a 33-percent increase in the number of homeless students in schools. Last year administrators had 98 homeless students at the beginning of the school year, but this year there are 130 students on that roster.

Record number of homeless students reported

A record number of homeless students were enrolled in Montana schools during the 2012-13 school year, according to data released by the National Center of Homeless Education. And many of them go to school in Helena.

A statement from the First Focus Campaign for Children said there were 2,551 students enrolled in preschool through 12th grade in Montana, which is almost a 45 percent increase from the 1,762 reported the year before.
