City Club Missoula – Suicide preventable, but stigma remain, Missoula speaker says

On the East Coast, it’s "cool" to have a therapist, said Karl Rosston, a suicide prevention coordinator.

Here in the West, the "cowboy mentality" means people try to take care of depression on their own.

"This is part of our culture," Rosston said. "We’ve been this way for 100 years. This is not going to change overnight. It’s going to take a cultural shift in thinking, and that takes time."

On Monday, Rosston gave a presentation called "Preventing Suicide is Everybody’s Business" to an estimated 30 people who attended City Club Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org/ at the DoubleTree Hotel. City Club Missoula is a nonprofit with a mission to inform and inspire residents and promote new ideas.
