What Columbus can teach Sacramento’s economic development group
August 9, 2014 /
In the fall of 2001, the Ohio city of Columbus was hurting from poor job growth and a national economy still roiling from the Sept. 11 attacks. A handful of CEOs expressed dissatisfaction at the years of stumbling economic initiatives, a slowly deteriorating Chamber of Commerce, and more than 30 smaller economic organizations that lacked a unified vision.
A CEO group was formed the following year to recruit and retain business. The organization became a well-defined "front door for the community," said Kenny McDonald, a Columbus-based career economic specialist.
