MISSOULIAN EDITORIAL: Carefully move forward on broadband
The first city in Montana to install a high-speed fiber-optic network was Butte. In January, to much fanfare, the Mining City celebrated the completion of phase 1 of its plan.
This summer, Bozeman entered the initial planning process for its own broadband initiative.
And Missoula? Thankfully, due to a push-start from the Economic Development Subcommittee, the Missoula City Council is prepared to take the first steps toward getting a broadband system in place here, too. Council members are looking at establishing a task force whose aim will be to help guide the city through the process.
The creation of this task force is a sensible idea, and residents ought to give this group all the support it needs to get a broadband system up and running in Missoula as quickly as possible. High-speed Internet is not just a luxury any more; it is an important part of everyday commerce.
