Equal pay task force to meet at University of Montana 7/31

In Montana, women earn only 66.7 percent of the median earnings of men, which means the state ranks 39th in the nation for pay equity, according to Montana Department of Labor and Industry Research and Analysis Bureau chief economist Barbara Wagner.

Utah, Wyoming and Idaho are the worst performers, while the District of Columbia was at the top. Nationally, women earn 70.6 percent of men’s earnings.

Last year, Gov. Steve Bullock issued an executive order to create the Montana Equal Pay for Equal Work Task Force, chaired by Labor Commissioner Pam Bucy and Department of Administration Director Sheila Hogan. The task force includes 10 representatives of the business, labor, tribal and education sectors from across the state.

The task force will meet on Thursday 7/31 in University Center Room 333 from noon to 4 p.m., and public comment will start at 3 p.m.
