Helena teachers prepare to collaborate

Nearly 300 educators attended a two-day conference hosted by the Helena School District this week in preparation for upcoming changes that will bring more consistency to Helena classrooms and help teachers ensure their students meet new academic standards.

The conference brought in experts in implementing so-called "professional learning communities," or PLCs, a model of teacher collaboration in which small teams plan units and analyze student data.

The district will begin implementing the technique next fall during weekly "early release days" that will provide teacher teams an hour each week to do PLC work.
