Wyoming’s telecom law about to sunset, clouding future of rural phone service
June 5, 2014 /
A task force of lawmakers and representatives of the telecommunications industry was directed Wednesday to work on a bill to replace the Wyoming Telecommunications Act, which expires in July 2015.
If the act sunsets without being replaced, state money to help pay for phone service to rural areas would end, and residents’ phone bills will rise steeply, said Sen. Cale Case, R-Lander, co-chairman of the Joint Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Interim Committee. The group met at Sheridan City Hall and discussed the issue.
