Global Gateway at University of Montana

Global Gateway http://umt.edu/international-programs/global-gateway/ (GG), an innovative educational service portal in the Office of International Programs at the University of Montana (UM), was launched in November 2013 to address the steadily increasing demand for global competence seminars on the UM campus, in the community, and in K-12 education.

GG seminars provide a window to the world, promote cultural awareness, and support the development of students as global citizens. GG has seen its most significant growth in its K-12 education branch with new instructive services added in February of this year. Since February, GG has offered seminars at Chief Charlo Elementary, Hellgate High School, and St. Joseph Elementary and Middle School. Several other schools have already expressed interest in participating in the upcoming school year.

Global Gateway’s mission is not limited to students. The first Global Competence Summer Academy (GCSA), June 16-19, is a collaboration between the UM Office of International Programs, the UM Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Sciences, and Missoula County Public Schools developed primarily for teachers and administrators, preparing them to effectively and efficiently address the challenges of a culturally diverse school environment. Within just a few hours of registration opening, 30 MSPC teachers signed up for the four half-day workshops.
