Montana Career Opportunity – Director of Nursing – Montana State University-Northern

Montana State University-Northern http://www.msun.edu has started a national search for a new Director of Nursing to replace Interim Nursing Director, Arlys Williams, who will go back to teaching once the new director arrives. The goal is to have this new person in place for the upcoming fall semester.

The University seeks an energetic, people-oriented, inspiring, and visionary leader who can advance the Department of Nursing to the next level and promote its reputation of excellence in the state, region, and nation. Candidates for this position must possess a doctoral degree, (PhD, DNSc or equivalent) and a master’s degree in nursing (if doctorate is not in nursing). Candidate must have credentials and experience necessary for an administrative appointment; be able to develop and enhance relationships with alumni and other external constituencies, including the ability to create resources through partnering, grant-writing, and fundraising; have outstanding communication skills; be committed to shared faculty governance; and be dedicated to the recruitment and retention of outstanding and diverse faculty and students.

"This search has a high priority for Northern and needs to be filled expeditiously. The nursing program is one of our most popular programs and this new person will help set the direction that will advance our nursing program to the next level," according to Dr. William Rugg, MSU-Northern’s Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Rugg continued to explain, "It is quite challenging to find a qualified nursing director because the accreditation standards require that this position hold a Doctorate. These credentials can command salaries that make it very difficult for Northern to match. For these reasons we have had to expand our search efforts and employ the services of a national executive search firm."

Northern’s nursing programs play a critical role in meeting the nursing health care needs of rural Montana. "Most of Northern’s nursing students stay in the state and the majority of those students work in rural communities," stated Interim Nursing Director Arlys Williams. "The past five months we have been reviewing our nursing programs. This review has allowed us to develop and shape ideas to improve the programs and meet accreditation demands. Today’s ever changing healthcare needs demand constant review and growth. We are looking forward to having the new director join us as we move forward," explained Williams.

MSU-Northern offers programs leading to the degrees of Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and an RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN). The MSU-Northern Department of Nursing is approved by the Montana State Board of Nursing and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. The nursing program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the university accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).

Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Electronic applications are preferred. For more information on this position please go to: http://www.msun.edu/hr/novs/NursingDir-02-2014b.aspx
