Highlands College forges alliances to help launch new aerospace welder program

Highlands College has forged a business-education alliance with Montana Precision Product’s SeaCast foundry to create a one-semester aerospace welder program.

Expecting increased demand for welders when SeaCast begins building new jet engine parts for joint venture partner GE Aviation within the year, SeaCast, located west of Butte, will donate at least $35,000 for new equipment and infrastructure upgrades to Highlands’ welding shop.

John Garic, dean, expects the program to start fall semester 2014. Highlands will hire one specialized welder instructor in May to head the program and collaborate with SeaCast experts on writing curriculum.
