After selling Summit Aeronautics Group to Boeing, Helena’s Tom Hoffman now launching Pioneer Aerostructures

Tom Hoffman, who started parts fabricator Summit Aeronautics Group in the mid-1990s, then sold it to his biggest customer, the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Division in 2010, has another aircraft business about to lift off.

His Pioneer Aerostructures is putting up an $18 million building down the street from Boeing Helena near the Helena Regional Airport, said Ron Mercer, airport director.

Last week, he said, Pioneer’s siding was up, and the roof was being put on the building. Mercer said equipment is expected to arrive by the first of May and could be operational by the end of summer.
