Montana State Library Launches Revised GIS Data List

Today, the Montana State Library launched the latest release of its GIS Data List (http://apps.msl.mt.gov/Geographic_Information/Data/DataList/). This release offers both the data finding as well as the data publishing capabilities that have been offered through the Montana GIS Portal for the past several years. Also featured in this release of the Data List is the option to search for only current data, only historic data, or a combination of both.

To prevent the Data List’s database and the Portal’s database from getting out of sync, the Montana GIS Portal was retired today and is no longer available. All of the metadata stored in the Montana GIS Portal has been migrated to the Data List. For existing Portal data publishers: Gerry Daumiller will contact you regarding continuing to publish your data using the Data List. We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by the need to retire the Montana GIS Portal without advance warning via a sunset period.

Montana State Library staff will present an orientation to this release of the Data List at next week’s Intermountain GIS Conference in Billings (session: Thursday, April 10 at 2:10pm). If you are unable to attend this session and you have questions (or suggestions) about the Data List and the retired Montana GIS Portal, please contact us.
