MontanaPBS turns 30 – Public television station welcomes digital age

This year, MontanaPBS http://www.montanapbs.org/ celebrates 30 years on air. Events include children’s workshops across the state, a sponsorship day in the second annual Interchange Festival which will include screenings of "Indian Relay and "Not Yet Begun to Fight," and media lecture series speaker.

Much has changed since 1984.

MontanaPBS is now a statewide service of the Montana University System, with branches at MSU (KUSM) and the University of Montana (KUFM). It has five full-power transmitters in Bozeman, Missoula, Billings, Great Falls and Kalispell. Translators in Butte and Helena help MontanaPBS reach over 400 communities in the state.

"We’re close to saying we reach every household in Montana," Hyyppa said. "It’s been a 30-year process."
