Missoula’s Economy is On The Move

A sea of asphalt is a beautiful thing – if you’re doing doughnuts in a parking lot.

Kraig Erickson has had fun driving doughnuts, but as the developer for the Woodbury Corp., he is pleased to be working with the Missoula Redevelopment Agency to put in some green landscaping at the South Crossing shopping center, site of the new Boot Barn and Cabela’s. He said the partnership with the MRA means funds for infrastructure as well as success and longevity for the project.

"It will be a staple in the Missoula community and a driver for better things to come in Midtown Missoula," Erickson said.

City showcases two potential urban renewal districts

Two potential urban renewal districts that could help revitalize Missoula is now open for public input.

One district has been designated near East Broadway and the other near North Reserve. The two areas have met criteria to be considered blighted and underdeveloped, which allows the city to use TIF money to fund improvement.

President Engstrom details UM contributions to Missoula
economy

Increasingly, communities look to universities to help spur business and economic development and the University of Montana is doing just that, President Royce Engstrom said during the 2014 State of Missoula Commerce Report on Tuesday.

Already, the University of Montana helps develop a workforce, Engstrom said.
