New York Mayor Spells Out His Pre-K Specifics Details on Proposal to Educate More Than 50,000 City Children
January 27, 2014 /
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to expand free, full-day prekindergarten with a tax on the rich would reach 53,000 students by September–more than 70% of the children who need it, according to an administration report to be released Monday.
Prekindergarten then would become available to all 73,000 students who need it by the 2015-16 school year, the report said, a rapid expansion of classrooms, staff and curriculum that would test the de Blasio administration’s ability to follow through on its ambitions.
