Free computer coding classes offered for girls in Butte, Montana

Silly boys, coding is for girls.

That’s the message Butte-Silver Bow Public Library is trying to get out with the free Codespace4Girls course.

An overwhelming gender gap exists in the U.S. in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines, statistics show. The library has partnered with the National Girls Collaborative Project, which has funded the coding program, and with the founders of Girls Develop It! to help area girls find a way into these primarily male-dominated subjects.

Session one is Jan. 29, 30 and Feb. 1, and session two is Feb. 26, 27 and March 1. Applications for the course are due Wednesday, Jan. 22 and can be found at http://www.buttepubliclibrary.info.
