Greensburg, Kansas a model for sustainable community development

As part of its push for environmental sustainability, the City Council ruled that government buildings in Greensburg should meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum standards. LED lamps now light up the city’s streets, and all of Greensburg’s electricity comes from 10 wind turbines.

The city also collects rainwater for irrigation and recycles graywater for toilets in some buildings.
