Wyoming Career Opportunity – Executive Director – Powell Economic Partnership

The Powell Economic Partnership http://www.pepinc.org/ (PEP) is a public-private partnership formed in 2011 to lead long term economic growth for a vibrant and sustainable community in and around the Powell Valley area of Park County, Wyoming. The PEP is the successor to the long standing, successful Powell Valley Economic Development Alliance as the premier economic development partner for the area. PEP is supported by a 7 member Board of Directors and over 40 active leading business and civic leaders. Funding is provided by, among others, Park County Wyoming, the City of Powell Wyoming, and donations and dues from members.

Position Profile

The Executive Director is responsible for leading the implementation of policies and directives established by the Board of Directors relating to economic development. This strong leader will be responsible for the planning and execution of the three pillars of the PEP strategy including consistent analysis of current capabilities and opportunities in the Powell Valley, driving an environment for attracting new business and industry, and developing a system for ensuring existing business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Create a coordinated, updated, professional approach to economic development, business retention, and expansion programs

Develop strategy and tactics for the creation of comprehensive marketing plans to promote the community to prospective businesses as a great place to live and do business

Increase the business intelligence research, collection, and analysis to support existing marketing efforts for current and prospect businesses

Act as key spokesperson for the organization, making the case for economic development to key stakeholders in the community
Provide leadership and management of PEP’s financial position
Build strong working relationships with public officials, community leaders, locational consultants, lenders, realtors, and others important to accomplishing PEP’s job creating mission

Be an information clearinghouse to help individuals interesting in starting or expanding a business access the appropriate resources, services, and business contacts

Research, analyze and execute on potential grant/funding opportunities for community development

Determine eligibility, economic feasibility, and community appropriateness for potential economic development projects
Provide thoughtful leadership in driving proposals and projects to successful conclusion and provide consistent communication to the PEP Board of Directors

Responsible for leading fundraising efforts to sustain the organization beyond the initial investment period.

Candidate Profile

Powell Economic Partnership is a startup entity focusing on the betterment of our community though appropriate economic development. As is the case with the leader of any startup, the Executive Director will need to bring both a breadth of experiences in the big picture and the actual execution, as well as the passion and work ethic to self-start and commit to projects with high energy and creativity.

The ideal candidate is one who makes deep connections with constituents and partners based on their ability to instill confidence and drive successes. S/he will have unquestionable integrity and impeccable business and personal ethics. The ideal candidate will also handle multiple concurrent tasks effectively and prioritize well and has a collaborative style who encourages different viewpoints but takes decisive action. Finally, the ideal candidate will bring exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.

Desired Education & Work Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required, MBA or advanced degree preferred

Minimum of two (2) years experience in economic development or related field

Demonstrated management experience

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job.
