University of Montana President Engstrom believes marketing, refinement, key to countering enrollment slide

University of Montana http://www.umt.edu/ President Royce Engstrom says the school is ramping up its marketing efforts this fall, a key part of his "five point plan" to deal with the school’s enrollment drop.

Two years ago UM administrators were celebrating the third year in a row of record enrollment, with the closely-watched mark breaking 15,000 for the first time in history. This fall, the outlook is much different, as for the second year in a row, enrollment is down, dropping to 14,525. And projections show that number could drop even more.

Engstrom is charging his administrators with countering that trend through several means, such as improving specifically timed recruitment efforts with potential students and refining the university’s use of scholarships and tuition waivers for the most benefit.
