Musings on the road to Sidney, Montana

How long has it been since you’ve driven to Sidney? The one in Montana, I mean. I haven’t taken the drive in about 25 years.

Last time, it was in mid-August, hotter ‘n the hubs of heck, and my old truck didn’t have air conditioning. To be honest, I don’t recall much about the drive, except the suffering.

A couple of days ago, it was overcast, I wasn’t as worried about the job I was going to as I had been the last time, and I discovered that it’s pretty interesting out there.

It helps that I know a lot more of the history of the area now. As it got flatter, I could see for miles and began to wonder why I’d thought it incredible that cowboys could gather up the cattle on ranges that covered tens of thousands of acres. Piece of cake, I thought.
