Increasing concern for concussions opens door for innovation

RU-Fit http://www.headinjurytest.com/ of Helena is a pre-market service provider that is introducing a new technology that quickly identifies physical evidence consistent with a concussion.

With brain injury as the leading cause of disability in the U.S., costing over $2.3 billion annually and with a current gold standard test that is inadequate, high profile injuries in the national media today (4 NFL concussions in last weeks games alone), now is the time to introduce a new technology that fulfills the market need to base line, identify injury, and monitor rehabilitation after treatment.

The most difficult challenge of sports injuries where no blood or physical injury is apparent is proving the injury exists. Today’s most popular tests are based on answering a series of questions, without any physiological testing. These are only slightly better than the old "how many fingers am I holding up"? The RU-FitTM Sports Test System provides peace of mind and enables timely and effective treatment of a potentially debilitating injury.

The recent passage of the Dylan Steigers Protection of Youth Athletes Act, signed by our Governor in April 2013, makes Montana the 45th state to adopt concussion policy aimed at protecting youth athletes from the lifelong effects of multiple unrecognized concussions. Our technology can not only help meet this new legal requirement, we can actually help accomplish the intent of the law:

To protect our Children

Proper training and rehabilitation begins with the evidence based test results provided by the RU-FitTM Sports Test System.

Fine motor control deficit is physiological evidence of concussion. The RU-FitTM Sports Test System is portable and can be administered just about anywhere.?

We need to be clear here. The RU-FitTM Sports Test System is not a preventative device, cannot provide a cure, or any treatment to an injured individual.

It measures hand performance as a function of time by monitoring the strength, reaction times and coordination of the thumb, index finger and small finger simultaneously.

This system is non-invasive and uses three independent load-cell force gauges to collect the data used in the measurements.

The procedure consists of four one minute tests. During each test, data are collected every 1 millisecond. The data are processed by our remote servers and the results are available and documented in an easy to read format within 10 minutes of receipt by our servers.

Simply put: Like a thermometer, the RU-Fit? Sports Test System simply and accurately provides evidence of injury, and it does that extremely well.

It provides a snapshot of a person’s current physiological status and can be used to: 1) Base line 2) Identify physiological evidence of injury 3) Monitor rehabilitation and 4) Track multiple injury events.

RU-FitTM of Helena has partnered with Red Oak Instruments in Houston to bring this product and service to Helena Montana. We are in the market validation phase and are actively working with private schools, parental groups (booster clubs) and parents in and around the Helena, Montana area.

The RU-FitTM Technology is in a unique situation, but it is time sensitive. The market is saturated with old technology applications that date back to post World War I. These neurocognitive tests are established and accepted.?Their weakness is becoming evident in faltering insurance acceptance. High media visibility to concussions extends our window of opportunity.

Actions like the Dylan Steigers Act also help extend our window but are probably not adequate to push the market to change.? Market multipliers may well be found in the sports med industry and? potential franchisees.

RU-FitTM http://www.headinjurytest.com/ of Helena will be seeking partners to flesh out an effective team to take this product to its national/global market.
