CEO Takes Action On Manufacturing Skills Gap

Tom Hudson CEO of http://www.nth-works.com/ believes public education has a shot at getting back on track with the recent push for vocational programs that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, but fears schools lack the funding and equipment to provide students with a true real-world experience.

Private German companies fund over 350 types of apprenticeships that secondary-school students can attend after regular school hours. By comparison, the rest of the European Union, which does not have well-established apprenticeships, has a youth unemployment rate of 23.2 percent. The United States hovers at 16.4 percent. Clearly, Germany is doing something right. Technical education matters.
