Economic gardening in Butte, Montana – Will money grow on trees for local businesses?

A new economic development program being launched in Butte has nothing to do with tending vegetables, but it has five local businesses wondering if they can make money grow on trees.

Butte Silver-Bow is spending $20,000 for the companies to participate in the National Center for Economic Gardening program, which offers an intense crash course in business training tailored to each company’s industry. The pilot project was announced at a press conference Monday at the the Butte-Silver Bow Archives.

Through video conferencing, email and face-to-face guidance, local entrepreneurs will learn new strategies from regional and national experts in the three-to-six-week program.

Butte is the first Montana community to join the National Center for Economic Gardening program.
