Montana awarded $1.4M workforce development grant

Montana will receive an additional $1.4 million to retrain dislocated workers this year.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced Wednesday that 30 states, including Montana, would split $58 million in grants to give dislocated workers certified training needed for new careers.

The grant more than doubles the amount of money the state currently spends on dislocated worker training, said Casey Kyler-West of the Montana Department of Labor and Industry. The Job Service is the local contact for the dislocated-worker program, which helps laid-off workers retrain, either through short-term class work or on-the-job training.
