Bonner trailer plant bucks Montana's low marks for manufacturing

June 23, 2013View for printing

Aluminum trailers began rolling out of ALCOM LLC's new manufacturing facility at the old Stimson mill site in February.

The expansion of the Maine-based manufacturing company to Bonner was a small shot in the arm for the local economy, bringing more manufacturing back to the once-booming mill site and creating nearly 30 local jobs.

Just four months later, ALCOM is getting ready to double its capacity in Bonner as it begins making trailers there for the company's large network of dealers in western Canada.

"Things are going better than we anticipated. This is the first time we've opened another facility. You plan on facing challenges but things have been great," said Dan Mills, ALCOM's national sales manager.
