Doubletree Hotel Edgewater Missoula,

100 Madison St.

The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced the findings of its 12-month investigation into how sexual assault allegations are handled by the University of Montana, the Missoula Police Department and the Missoula County Attorney’s Office. That investigation reviewed 80 sexual assault cases in Missoula over the past three years. During this process, Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg has refused to cooperate with federal investigators, saying his office did nothing wrong and that the feds have no authority for their action.

At City Club Missoula’s June forum, Van Valkenburg will discuss the DOJ investigations and other current issues involving the Missoula County Attorney’s Office. Van Valkenburg has been the Missoula County Attorney since December, 1998. He began working in the office as a Deputy County Attorney in June, 1985. He graduated from Gonzaga University in 1970 and the University of Montana School of Law in 1973. He is a past president of the Montana County Attorneys Association and a member of the National District Attorneys Association.
