Main Street Montana: Economic blueprint for Montana launches in Billings

Last year, Montana enjoyed the second-fastest growth in personal wages in the country, but workers here have a lot of catching up to do.

Montanans earn on average $37,100 per year, the 44th-lowest wage in the nation. When measured by hourly wages, Montana is in 41st place.

Helping businesses grow and attracting more well-paying jobs are key reasons that Gov. Steve Bullock set up Main Street Montana to develop a “strategic economic development plan” for Montana.

The effort to identify the state’s strengths and weaknesses kicked off in Billings on Tuesday when about 80 people attended the first of five brainstorming meetings.
