Agriculture leaders wanted for new Montana leadership program

With fewer people raising the nation’s food than ever before, it has become difficult to identify farm community leaders, but a new Montana program aims to do exactly that.

Montana State University Extension is looking for candidates with agriculture or natural resource backgrounds for an intense, two-year program intended to develop long-term leadership skills. The idea is to prepare men and women to become able representatives for their industries, both in boardrooms and in government meeting halls.

It’s called the Resource Education and Agriculture Leadership program, or REAL. It consists of eight in-state seminars, a five-day study tour in Washington, D.C., and a two-week international trip. Classes focus on economics, global trade, government policy, public speaking and urban-rural relationships, plus industry topics.
